Word is one of those programs that many of us use almost daily, but the truth is that it has several features that we do not know about, and thanks to which we could have a much better user experience or, at the very least, save a little time . That said, surely you are aware that Word brings the header function to repeat the upper content of the first page in all the others, while the footer does exactly the same, although in this case with the lower content of each page. In general, dates, numbers or handwritten signatures are added there.
The interesting thing is that, if you don’t want to be worrying about keeping the header and footer data, you always have the possibility to block their edition, protecting them from any incident.
So to the question about whether you can lock the header and footer in Word, the answer is that we have a tool called Restrict Editing, which is just for this.
Block header and footer editing step by step
The simplest way to proceed in this direction, i.e. to block the header and footer editing in Word, is create a template with those elements, which you can reuse whenever you want.
- Start Word as usual.
- Add the header and / or footer
- Click on the Design section, and Continuous
- Then go to Show and Hide to see the section break
- Highlight the section break shown in this document
- Click on the Source button and hit 1, removing Hide and show
- Then, open the Restrict edition option and “for all” in the Exception
- Tells Word to start applying protection from then on
From that moment on, you will have your template with the header and footer blocked, so anyone who starts a new document from this template, it will have both elements without being able to modify them.
