If he Zoom audio not working during a meeting, it can be due to a wide variety of reasons; Perhaps it is the microphone that is muted, we forgot to join the meeting with the audio activated, we do not have the permissions from the device configuration, etc. Obviously, after installing the meeting app, this is a very annoying thing to happen. For this reason, a little further down we will see how to solve it quickly.

What to do when Zoom audio is not working

We cannot deny that Zoom is a considerably useful application to keep in touch with our friends, family and co-workers. It gives us a lot of possibilities and conveniences, such as using keyboard shortcuts, setting a specific person, recording meetings, etc.

When we can listen to others, but they don’t listen to us

First we’re going to need to check that the microphone isn’t muted when we hover over the screen or tap on it to reveal the microphone icon. Here the important thing is that it appears without a red bar that is going through it. If we go the oblique bar, we will simply have to click on this icon to cancel the silence.

From the desktop app

We will have to hover over the Zoom window and choose the “^” sign that is on the right side of the microphone icon, in the lower left corner.

Here we will have to make sure that we have the correct microphone selected; otherwise we will have to choose our microphone.

After clicking on the sign next to the microphone icon, we will have to choose “Test speaker and microphone”.

We will see a series of indications on the screen that we will have to follow to verify if our device is properly configured. Once we’re done we’re just going to press finish.

From the mobile app

We press on the screen to be able to visualize the options menu, here we should see the option to join audio in the lower left corner.

Let’s choose Wi-Fi or mobile data from the pop-up menu.

In case we do not see the audio option, we will have to press on the three points in the lower right corner and we will have to choose “Disconnect audio” and then we will follow the previous steps to join.

We will also have to make sure that Zoom has the necessary permissions to be able to use the microphone, for this we will have to access it through the device settings.

In the case of an iPhone, we will have to go to the Zoom application from Settings, then we will make sure that the Microphone option is enabled. On Android devices, we’re going to go to Zoom app Settings and choose Auto-Connect to Audio.

When they can hear us, but we can’t hear them

In this case, it is very likely that the problem is with or related to the speakers, so we are going to have to make sure to check the source of the speakers and the volume of the device.

From the desktop app

We will have to move the cursor over the Zoom window and choose the “^” sign, which is located to the right of the microphone icon, in the lower left corner.

Here we will have to make sure we have the correct speaker selected. If this does not work, we will have to choose the audio test “Test Spekear & Microphone” from the same menu.

In the mobile app

If we don’t see the Join Audio option, let’s double check that the speaker icon in the top left corner of the screen doesn’t have an “x” next to it; if so, we will have to press on it to enable the speaker.
