It may be the case that you need to turn your Windows 11 PC into a mobile hotspot. This allows you to connect mobile devices to the PC’s Wi-Fi signal. This can be useful when you live in a rural area, for example.

How to create a mobile hotspot in Windows 11

First, open the settings from the Start menu or use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + I to open the configuration directly.

Once you have the Settings open, click Network and Internet in the list of items on the left.

Now, in the list of items on the right, click Mobile hotspot.

When the Mobile Hotspot section opens, you will find several options. Before activating the “Mobile Hotspot”, you will need to configure it.

Make sure to change “Share my Internet connection from” to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whichever works best for your situation. In my example, I am using Wi-Fi, but if your PC is wired, it uses Ethernet.

The next thing on the list is to choose how you are going to “share” the connection. Wi-Fi will generally work for you, but you can use Bluetooth or Ethernet if you’re connected.

Now, from the “Properties” section, click the button Edit.

Next, set the name of the network (easy to find) and a password for users to connect to it. And the network band, that is, 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz. If you are not sure, choose the option “Any available”. After making your selections, click the button Keep.

Now that you have the hotspot set up, turn on the “Mobile Hotspot” switch.

How to Connect to a Windows 11 Mobile Hotspot

Connecting your device to the Windows 11 hotspot you created is child’s play. Start your device’s network settings to find and connect to it. For example, here I am using an iPhone to find and connect to the hotspot. I will Settings> Wi-Fi, I search for the access point and connect to it by entering the password and tapping on Join.

It should also be noted that Windows 11 includes a “power saving” mode. Enable it if you want Windows to turn off the hotspot if there are no devices connected to it. That will help save battery life throughout the day.

Of course, if you no longer want to use your PC as an access point, you can disable the switch. That’s it, a simple process.
