How to Customize the Windows Taskbar 11

The taskbar in Windows 11 is less configurable than in previous versions. For example, you can’t move to the right or to the top of the screen (at least not yet). Still, there are some customizations you can do with the taskbar in Windows 11. Here are some of the things you can do.

Move the Start Menu to the left

Although moving the taskbar is more limited, you can move the Start Menu and the rest of the taskbar to the left. This returns the Start Menu to the corner where you are used to accessing it.

To do this, go to Start> Settings> Personalization> Taskbar> Taskbar behaviors> Taskbar alignment and change it to Left.

For step-by-step instructions, read our article on how move Windows 11 start menu to the left.

Pin apps from the Start menu to the taskbar

Pinning applications from the Start menu to the taskbar makes them easy to access. Open the Start menu and right-click on the application you want. Right-click the icon of the application you want and click Pin to taskbar.

If an app isn’t pinned to the Start menu, click the button All applications. Then find the application by first letter. Right-click on the app and select More> Pin to taskbar.

Unpin apps from the taskbar

Unpinning the apps is pretty straightforward. Right-click the application on the taskbar and click Unpin from the taskbar. That is all.

Add the dashboard to the taskbar

The classic Control Panel is still available in Windows 11. If you want to make it easier to access, it is easy to pin it to the taskbar.

Press the Windows key and writes: cpl and right-click on the Control Panel app under “Best Match.” Then click on “Pin to taskbar”(Or in Home if that’s where you want it).

That is all. Now the Control Panel will live on the taskbar.

Remove built-in Windows apps

Windows 11 has several built-in Microsoft applications that appear on the taskbar. But you may want to hide or delete them. Some examples of these applications are the Widgets button, Teams chat, search, task view, etc. All of them are relatively easy to remove with the flick of a switch through Settings.

Opens Settings> Personalization> Taskbar and, from there, deactivate the icons that you do not want on the taskbar. For more details, see the following step-by-step articles:

Change the color of the Windows 11 start and task bar

Improving the look of Windows is always fun, and Windows 11 is no exception. You can always enable the Dark Mode in Windows 11, but you might want to change things up a bit more.

To change the color of the Start menu and taskbar, go to Settings> Personalization> Colors. Next, change the “Choose your mode” box to “Custom” and then choose your default Windows mode and “default application color”. Turn on “Show accent color on Start and taskbar.” Add transparency effects and select a color from the color grid.

Have fun and play with different color schemes. You’ll end up getting Windows 11 to look and feel the way you want it to. P

What happened to the Task Manager?

Previously, the Task Manager could be accessed by right-clicking on the taskbar. But this has changed in Windows 11, which is quite annoying. But you can find it quite easily if you know where to look. The easiest way is to right-click on the Start menu and there it is in the menu.
