This post shows students and new user steps to disable Windows Hello facial recognition login with Windows 11. Windows 11 comes with a Windows Hello feature that provides a more personal and secure way to log in to Windows.
With Windows Hello, one can use a PIN, face, or fingerprint to log into their Windows devices. The Windows Hello feature offers several ways in which one can ditch their passwords in favor of a more secure and personal authentication method.
To configure the Windows Hello feature, you will need a Windows computer with special hardware that supports these authentication methods. For example, you will need a fingerprint reader to authenticate with your finger, and a facial recognition authentication requires an infrared camera or Intel RealSense.
If you’ve configured Windows to log in with your face and you want to disable it, the steps below show you how.
How to disable facial login with Windows 11
As mentioned above, Windows Hello provides a more personal and secure way to log into Windows without a normal password.
If you have set up a facial recognition login and want to disable it, please follow the steps below to do so.
Windows 11 has a centralized location for most of its settings. From system settings to creating new users and updating Windows, everything can be done from your System settings crystal.
To access the System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click Start ==> Settings as shown in the following picture:
Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and find Settings. Then select to open it.
The Windows settings panel should look similar to the image below. In Windows settings, click Accounts, then select the Login options tile on the right panel of the screen shown in the image below.
In the login options settings panel, under Ways to log in, click on the Face recognition (Windows Hello) tile to expand it.
Then click on the Remove to disable the facial recognition login option in Windows 11.
Once you do that, you will be prompted to enter your Windows PIN or password to confirm the change.
After completing the steps, you can continue to log in with a traditional password. You may need to delete the PIN that you created during the facial recognition login option setup.
You should do that!
