This post shows students and new users the steps to show or display the Pen menus on the taskbar when using Windows 11 with pen and touch screen devices. If you are using a touch screen device with a stylus, there is a stylus menu icon that appears on the taskbar. If you don’t see the pen menu, the steps below will show you how to display it so you can quickly use it with applications.
With the Pen menu on the taskbar, you can quickly access your pen-optimized apps and settings without having to open the Start button. This feature was not available in earlier versions of Windows. However, Windows 11 allows you to quickly get to your essential applications by simply clicking the pencil menu on the taskbar.
When you want to show or hide the pencil menu icon on the taskbar, continue below.
As mentioned above, the Pen menu on the taskbar allows you to quickly access pen-optimized applications in Windows 11. It provides shortcuts to essential applications without the need to go to the Start menu.
Here’s how to enable it in Windows 11.
Windows 11 has a centralized location for most of its settings. From system settings to creating new users and updating Windows, everything can be done from your System settings crystal.
To access the System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click Start ==> Settings as shown in the following picture:
Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and find Settings. Then select to open it.
The Windows settings panel should look similar to the image below. In Windows settings, click Personalization, then select Taskbar on the right panel of the screen shown in the image below.
In the settings pane of the taskbar, expand the tile of icons in the corner of the Pencil menu switch to Upon position.
When you do, the pen menu icon will appear on the taskbar. You can access it quickly by clicking on it.
If you’ve enabled the Pencil menu and change your mind about it, you can quickly disable it by reversing the steps above and going to the Start menu ==> Settings ==> Personalization ==> Taskbar ==> Taskbar corner icons and moving the button to Off position for Pencil menu.
You should do that!
