How to Fix Blue or Red Tint on Monitor in Windows

Obviously, using our computer with Windows and having to deal with the annoying blue or red tint on the monitor it’s not a nice thing. Not only for photo or video editors, but also for the average user.

Some monitors have a blue or cooler tint, while other monitors have a red or yellowish tint. This is a problem that significantly worsens our experience, especially when we are going to view videos, photographs, etc.

Check if the night light is on

One of the first things we have to check is if the night light is on, because it casts a slightly reddish or yellow shadow on the screen to protect our eyes from the blue light that comes out of it. In order to verify it, we will have to go to Settings by pressing Windows + i.

From here we go to System > Display and check if the night light or Night Light is activated. If so, we will have to deactivate the option.

From Settings> System> Display> Night light we will be able to change the intensity or color temperature. Obviously, the “hotter” it is, the redder the screen will become. So we must take all this into account in order to change the temperature of the screen.

Update graphics drivers

Many times this problem occurs due to having old and outdated drivers, although we also recommend checking for optional driver updates. So we are going to have to try to update the drivers in question; For this we recommend visiting the official website of the manufacturer of our video card to obtain the latest available drivers.

Revert graphics drivers update

Another possibility is with graphics drivers that started the problem. It happens often, so we should consider it if we have recently installed new drivers. In order to revert the GPU drivers we will have to do the following:

  • We open Device Manager, press the Windows key and type Device Manager.
  • We will expand the Display Adapters option.
  • Next, we are going to right click on the controller and then we are going to choose Properties.
  • We go to the Driver tab and click on Roll back driver.

If the driver is grayed out, it means that there is no update that our computer can roll back. We will have to move on to the next solution.

Use a native refresh rate and screen resolution

When we change the screen resolution to one that is not recommended or the refresh rate, we can run into a few problems, including tint. To change it we will have to go to Settings> System> Screen> Advanced screen.

Let’s configure the display that is giving us problems from Set display to view or change settings, then we will click on Display adapter properties for display 1, we will click on List all Modes, we will configure the native resolution and the refresh rate , finally we will click OK.

Check if we have screen calibration apps

It is important to check if we have any application that calibrates the screen installed on our computer. A third-party app can cause this issue by changing the screen calibration. Therefore, if we find an app of this type, we will have to uninstall it from the computer.

Using clean boot

A clean reboot will disable all services except Windows and GPU. This way we can quickly check if any application is causing the problem. In case the tint disappears, we will have to manually enable all services to find out which app is the culprit.

System restore point

In case none of the above will work, the only alternative left to us is some kind of system configuration change. The best thing at this point is to use a previous system restore point (as long as we have one created) where the dye was not.

We press Windows and look for Find restore point, we will click on System Restore and follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the process and verify if the problem has been solved.
