This post shows students and new users the steps to quickly display your desktop in Windows 11 from the right corner of the taskbar. Sometimes you may want to quickly see your desktop in Windows 11, but you don’t want to tediously minimize all the windows you’ve opened.
Windows 11 comes with a feature that allows users to quickly minimize all open applications and display the desktop and click the button again to open all applications that were minimized.
This little feature is very useful, especially if you want to quickly display your desktop without altering your window layout, when you have all your applications and settings open, you can simply click on the little vertical line at the far right of the taskbar to quickly show or hide all windows. Click on it again to get everything back.
This feature is enabled by default, but if it’s disabled we’ll show you how to enable or disable it if you don’t want to use it.
To start showing or hiding your desktop in Windows 11, follow the steps below.
How to quickly display the desktop in Windows 11
As mentioned above, one can quickly minimize all windows and display the desktop in Windows 11 by clicking on a small vertical line in the right corner of the taskbar, next to the clock.
You may not be able to see it clearly, but when you hover your mouse over the right corner of the taskbar, the vertical line will appear that you can use to quickly show or hide the desktop in Windows 11.
If you don’t see the vertical line or button, here’s how to enable or turn it on.
As mentioned above, one can quickly show or hide the desktop by clicking the vertical line in the right corner of the taskbar. If you don’t see the button or line, follow the steps below to enable.
Windows 11 has a centralized location for most of its settings. From system settings to creating new users and updating Windows, everything can be done from your System settings crystal.
To access the System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click Start ==> Settings as shown in the following picture:
Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and find Settings. Then select to open it.
The Windows settings panel should look similar to the image below. In Windows settings, click Personalizationand select Taskbar on the right panel of the screen shown in the image below.
In the settings pane of the taskbar, expand Taskbar behavior, then check the box for «Select the far corner of the taskbar to display the desktop”To enable the function in Windows 11.
The changes should take effect immediately.
To disable, just reverse the steps above and uncheck the box to disable.
