Even though iOS is a remarkably stable mobile operating system with flawless performance; on some occasions it may crash, freeze or stop working. In these cases, it is best restart our iPhone or exit an application that is causing some kind of problem.

In this article we are going to review these basic concepts that any iPhone user should have very clearly learned by heart! So that in those moments when our device is “misbehaving” we know how to fix it quickly and without having to go through headaches.

How to quit an app on iPhone

The first thing we will have to do is open App Switcher, we do this by sliding up from the bottom of the screen and then pausing in the middle or if we have a start button, pressing twice on this button.

How to close an app on iPhone.

We’re going to see an overlay preview of all the apps that are currently open on the device. We simply press on the app and slide up and the application will close. If we don’t find the app we’re looking for, we do the same to the left to cycle through all the apps.

It is not feasible to close all apps at once like we do in Android. Although iOS allows us to close up to 3 applications at the same time using three fingers and with the same method that we discussed above.

How to turn off the phone

In case slide to power off does not work, we will have to force it. For this we are going to press and hold the side button and any of the volume buttons until we see the sliders. We will have to slide to turn off when the option appears. In case we have an iPhone with a home button, we will press and hold the side button or the sleep or unlock button. Then we can restart it using the power button as usual.

If we’re pretty messed up and we can’t turn off the device in the way mentioned above, we’ll have to force restart. If we have an iPhone 8 or higher, we will do it this way:

  • We quickly press and release the volume up button.
  • We do the same, but with the volume down button.
  • We hold down the side power button. After a few seconds, we should see the screen turn black: we hold down the power button until we see the Apple logo.

This means that the device has rebooted, we can release the button and wait for the device to start as it normally would. With these two methods we already know how to exit any application or restart our iPhone.
