How to Uninstall Applications or Programs in Windows 11

When you no longer need or use applications in Windows, it is a good idea to get rid of them from time to time. Especially games and other big programs. This will help clear up some disk space and create a more clutter-free experience.

Uninstall Applications Through the Start Menu

One of the easiest ways to get rid of a Windows 11 application is through the Start menu. Click the button Beginning and look for the icon of the application you want to uninstall. The app should be easy to find if it is pinned to Home. Right-click the application icon, and then click Uninstall.

Note: If the application you want to install is not pinned, click the button All applications and search the application by its first letter.

If you are uninstalling an app from the Microsoft Store, you will see a message verifying that you want to remove it. Click the button Uninstall.

The app will uninstall in the background, and when finished, the app icon will disappear from the Start menu. That is all. The application is uninstalled, and there is nothing else to do.

Uninstall Applications Through Settings

You can also go directly to the Settings app to uninstall apps. Click the button Beginning and then in Setting. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Windows + I to directly open Settings.

Once the settings have opened, click Applications in the left column. Then click Applications and Features in the list on the right.

Now, scroll down to the “Apps List” section. There you can search for the application you want to uninstall or scroll down and find the one you want to remove. Then click the button Choices (three dots) located on the left of the application and then click Uninstall.

Then click on the Uninstall button when the verification message appears.

Then follow the instructions that appear to uninstall the app. Again, the Microsoft Store apps will just be removed – you’ll see a short progress bar as they are uninstalled. But Win32 apps will display the classic uninstall prompts you’ve seen over the years. As in the example below, I am uninstalling the Foobar2000 desktop music app.

Uninstall Applications Through Control Panel

You can still use Control Panel to uninstall Win32 desktop applications. Press the Windows key on your keyboard and writes: cpl and click on the top result under “Best match”.

Then click Programs and characteristics.

Uninstalling applications from the Control Panel works as in Windows 10. Right-click on the application you want to remove and select Uninstall. You can also search for apps in the search box in the upper right corner.

Note: One overlooked capability in Control Panel is the number of ways you can sort apps. In addition to searching for an application, you can click on the “Name” menu and organize them alphabetically or by number. You can also sort them by app publisher, installation date, app size, and version.

Another feature that is often overlooked is the resizing of app icons. Click on the drop-down menu More options and use the slider to make the applications the size that best suits you.

That is all.
