How to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11

This post shows students and new users the steps to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. If you have a valid Windows 10 computer and your computer meets the Windows 11 requirements, you should be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free.

Upgrading to Windows 11 is pretty simple and straightforward. In fact, Windows 10 computers should now have a Microsoft PC Health Check application to check if your PC meets the requirements and can be upgraded to Windows 11.

To check if your PC is ready for Windows 11, click the search box on the taskbar, then type Health in the search box. Below Best match, select and open PC Health Check App. Once the application opens, click Check it now in Getting Started with Windows 11.

If your PC meets the Windows 11 requirements, go to Windows Updates to update your Windows 10 computer.

To get there in Windows 10, click Start menu > Settings > Update and security > Windows updates > Search for updates. Please select Download and install in Upgrading to Windows 11.

Check eligibility for Windows 10 update

Before you can upgrade to Windows 11, your PC must meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11. You must now install a PC Health application on your computer to help you find out if your PC meets the requirements.

In Windows 10, click the Windows search box in the taskbar, then type Health, under Best Match, select and open the Checking the PC status app.

In Getting Started with Windows 11, click Check it now button.

This app will tell you if you can upgrade to Windows 11.

How to upgrade to Windows 11

As mentioned below, you can upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 for free. If your Windows 10 computer meets the Windows 11 requirements, simply go to Windows Updates and start updating.

In Windows 10, click the Start button, then select the Settings (gear icon) as shown below.

In the Windows Settings window, click the Update and security category as highlighted below.

Then select Windows Updates and click on the Search for updates button. If the Windows 11 update is available, Feature update to Windows 11 is displayed.

Please select Download and install.

Once Windows 11 is downloaded, restart your computer when prompted. After downloading Windows 11 and restarting, Windows 11 setup will download additional files to install.

Click next continue.

In the following windows, select the files, settings, and applications that you want to keep, and then choose next.

After that select Install on pc to begin the installation of Windows 11 on your computer. This may take a while depending on the speed and connection settings of your computer. After that, Windows 11 should be installed.

Once the update is complete, log into the new Windows 11 with your credentials in the login windows.
