How to use System Restore in Windows 11?

  • System Restore is one of the historical procedures that Windows includes in its functions
  • Running a restore will allow us to go back to a point where everything was working as it should
  • Created the restore point, we will have to resort to this solution to go back in time

As all of us who have been using Microsoft operating environments for years know, there are some of its options that are key on a day-to-day basis, but especially in exceptional, desperate situations. As in previous versions of this operating system, we can use the System Restore function in Windows 11. But since it is a recent update, many wonder how to take full advantage of it..

In this latest edition of the OS, Microsoft is committed to improving the solutions offered by its internal restoration. Basically, and as in the previous ones, we are going to be able to solve the main problems of our team.

To make everything easier for you if you don’t have much experience with this procedure, we are going to show you the essential steps you must follow, the same ones that will allow you to recover your workspace.

System restore in Windows 11, step by step

Create a system restore point in Windows 11

Our recommendation is that before you go to make any major changes to the system, mostly those that could cause everything to crash, make a restore point of the same.

Also, if you have sensitive content that you shouldn’t lose, this works as a backup.

  • On your PC, press the Windows key and type restore, to go to Create a restore point
  • Open the System Properties window, activate the protection to create the restore point, selecting drive C or the default drive of your device, and clicking on Configure
  • Enable system protection and click OK, and then click Create a restore point
  • You have to give the restore point a name, while the date and time are automatic
  • The system will take about 10 or 20 seconds and, after that, the restore point will have been created

In this sense, we advise you to periodically eliminate the duplicate files that accumulate on your PC, because being able to make restore points will depend on having available storage on the system.

Use the system restore point in Windows 11 from the desktop

Once the restore point is successfully created, it is time to proceed to restore the system as such.

  • On your PC, press the Windows key and type restore, to go to Create a restore point
  • Open the System Properties window, but this time go to System Restore
  • Another window will open, the System Restore window, and click Next
  • You will find all the restore points you have created
  • Choose the one you want according to the name, date and time
  • Click Finish to return to that restore point

After a few minutes, your PC will restart exactly from the restore point you have assigned to it.

Run System Restore in Windows 11 from Advanced Boot Options

If your PC upgraded to Windows 11 won’t restart or shows a black screen after a Windows update, you can always choose to restore the system from the Advanced Boot Options screen.

If you don’t even see that lock screen, turn off your PC, turn it on, and when the Windows loading sign appears, turn it off again. Repeat this two or three times, until Windows is forced to go to the recovery screen

  • Already on the locked screen, click on Advanced options to go to the troubleshooter
  • Click on Troubleshoot, and open the Advanced Options and System Restore menu
  • A new System Restore window will open, and click Next
  • You will find there all the restore points that you have been creating
  • Choose the one you want according to the name, date and time
  • Click Finish to return to that restore point

After a few minutes, your PC will restart exactly from the restore point you have assigned to it.
