How to View (Use) Twitch on Roku

If there’s nothing you like more than chilling out watching a streamer play games (or maybe you enjoy streaming them yourself), you’ll need to get started on Twitch. It includes everything from eSports to individual players establishing their brand. You can see it on different platforms, but Roku is not one of them, that is, officially.

The official Twitch app was removed from the Roku Channel Store by Amazon. Luckily, there are a couple of solutions you can use to watch Twitch on your Roku device.

Here’s how to watch Twitch on your Roku.

How to watch or use Twitch on Roku

One option you have (for now) is to use a private Roku channel called Twoku. This gives you access to Twitch streams without relying on an official app. It’s not perfect (there are bugs, and the app is rarely updated) but it’s still the best option for watching Twitch on Roku. As with any private channel, Roku may also block or remove it at any time without prior notice.

To start using Twoku, go to setting up your Roku account and sign in if you haven’t already. When the page of Add Channel, writes Twoku in the field of channel access code.

Check the Captcha and click the button Add channel.

You will then receive a warning message that will let you know that it is not a certified channel and that it could be blocked or removed. As of December 2021, this method continues to work.

Click on okay to the message.

You will be invited to add Twoku to your Roku account. Click the button Yes, add channel to verify that you want to add it to your Roku device.

How to add Twoku to your Roku device

To find the app on your Roku, turn it on and go to Setting from the home screen.

Go to System> System Update> Check Now and wait for the channels to update.

After the update, you will find the Twoku channel at the bottom of your channel list.

Now you can start watching live and recorded broadcasts on Twitch.

Based on our tests, the app’s browsing experience is not the best. However, it allows access to Twitch streams on your Roku, which is what you want. Remember that this is not an official application, it could be blocked or deleted at any time.

How to make Twitch Screen Mirror from Android to Roku

If you don’t want to deal with unofficial apps, you can try mirroring Twitch from your phone to Roku. Screen mirroring on Roku has been around for some time. You can still use it to bring your Twitch streams to Roku and, by extension, to your connected monitor or TV.

To mirror Twitch screen from Android to Roku, download e install the Twitch app from the Google Play Store on your Android device. Open the app, log in, and find the broadcast you want to watch.

Swipe down from the top bezel and tap the button Smart View. In the example below, we find it on a Samsung Galaxy phone.

If your phone doesn’t have a Smart View button, look for a Smart View button. Screen Cast instead.

Once you’ve pressed the broadcast or smart view button, the phone will search your network for available connections. Touch your Roku device.

You should see a button at the bottom of the Roku screen asking to verify the connection. Confirm this by selecting Let.

Once the connection is established, you should be able to watch your favorite Twitch streams through Roku. The video will stream and appear on your TV immediately.

Another option is to use your laptop or desktop and connect it to your Roku.

Starts opening Twitch in a web browser, use the keyboard shortcut key Windows + A to bring up the Quick actions and click Cast. If you don’t see it, click on the pencil icon at the bottom and add Cast to the menu.

Then press the Windows key + A and click the button Cast that you just added to the menu. When your Roku device appears, click on it to connect.

On your Roku, allow access from your computer by selecting Let. You should then be able to enjoy your favorite Twitch action live on the screen your Roku is connected to.

If you don’t see the Twitch stream from your computer, make sure the projection method is set to Double.

To do this, click on the link Change projection mode in the pop-up window of Cast. Alternatively, press the Windows + A and click Projection.

Make sure the option Double is selected.

How to manage Roku Mirror settings

You can block future Roku screen mirroring requests by changing the Mirror settings on the device.

Go to Settings> System> Screen Mirroring. From there, you can set the Roku to always allow connections, never allow connections, or always request connections.

You can also see the mirroring devices connected to your Roku, and you can delete them.

Twitch streaming on Roku devices

The steps above should help you figure out how to watch Twitch on Roku. It’s a great platform for watching different types of content, whether it’s a Twitch stream or a Netflix movie.

An important fact must also be taken into account. If you managed to install the official Twitch app before Amazon removed it, you can no longer use it. Amazon disabled the Twitch OG app in 2019, sorry! Your only option is to use Twoku or screen mirror the streams from your PC or mobile devices instead.
