As of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, a quite interesting function was introduced that allows us to to improve the quality of the calls of face time, this function is called microphone mode. It can help us improve the quality of calls in a fairly simple way through a few options.

In the following guide we will see step by step everything we need to do to achieve it and, as you can see, it is something that will only take a few seconds. Yes, literally, a few seconds to have a better experience when communicating with our loved ones using the Apple app.

What is this mode?

The microphone mode is a function that allows us to configure how the sound will sound. It is possible to choose between different modes and sound effects every time we use the app to capture our voice, even in the middle of a FaceTime call. We will have three modes to choose from.

  • Standard: Default sound profile, no changes.
  • Voice Isolation: Makes use of machine learning algorithms to block out background noise. This will allow our voice to be heard more clearly.
  • Broad Spectrum: basically improves the sound that is captured from our environment.

Use microphone mode to improve the quality of FaceTime calls

The first thing we will have to do is open the FaceTime app on our mobile device.

Once we’re on a voice call, we’re going to swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to be able to access the Control Center. Here we will have to proceed to press on “Microphone mode”.

Choose microphone mode.

Next, we are going to have to choose one of the three sound modes that we mentioned earlier.

And that’s all we have to do. We will now be able to exit Control Center and return to the FaceTime call as we normally would. The configuration we made will be saved and every time we make a call, it will be applied automatically. It is a small, but quite interesting feature to improve our experience with FaceTime calls.
