Premiere Pro: Error unzipping audio or video file

There are many users of Adobe PremierePro who meet him error decompressing audio or video files. Most of the time this error is due to a file format that is not supported. however, we found other reasons why this error is generated. In this article, we will see several methods that we can apply to try to solve it.

Error uncompressing audio or video in Premiere Pro

Verifying that the format is compatible

The first thing we will have to do is check that the file format we are using is fully compatible. Adobe is compatible with the vast majority of formats, it is possible to enter hellopx.adobe.com to check all formats that are accepted.

If the file we have is not in an acceptable format, we will have to use programs such as Adobe Media Encoder or Adobe Audition.

Change format from .MP3 to .WAV

In many cases, changing the .MP3 format to .WAV can solve the problem. Luckily, the process to achieve it is too easy and we will only have to follow these steps:

  • We will open File Explorer by pressing Windows + E.
  • Now let’s find the MP3 file.
  • We will click on View> Show> File name extension.
  • Next, we will right click on the file and select Rename.
  • We will have to remove the .mp3 extension and put .wav in its place.
  • It will ask us to confirm the change, we click Yes and that’s it.

Clear Premiere Pro cache

If Premiere Pro’s cache is corrupted, then this error may appear. Luckily, it’s easy to fix.

  • We open Premiere Pro on our computer.
  • We click Edit at the top.
  • We choose Preferences > Media Cache.
  • Let’s click Delete associated with Delete media cache files.
  • Next, we will have to choose Delete all media cache files or Delete unused media cache files.
  • We will click OK to confirm.

To finish, we will have to restart the computer to verify if the problem has been solved.

Rename or delete the media cache folder

Sometimes clearing the cache can help fix the problem. However, on many occasions the problem is damage to the same folder. We do not really need to remove the folder, we will simply change its name and the program will be forced to create a new one automatically.

For this we will have to go to File Explorer and find the following location: C:UsersUsuarioAppDataRoamingAdobeCommon

Obviously, we will have to change “user” to the username of our computer.

Once we find the location, we are going to rename the folders to Media Cache Files_OLD and Media Cache_OLD respectively.

Compress files with a different tool

In case Adobe Premiere Pro does not work, we will have to unzip the file with another tool. If we cannot import or make any kind of changes to this file, we can say that it is corrupted. If we can modify the file with another tool, then the problem is not the file and it is definitely Adobe Premiere Pro.

Reinstall the app

The last resort that we have available will be to completely reinstall Adobe Premiere Pro. If after trying all the methods mentioned above we do not get results, then the last alternative that we have is the reinstallation.

We will have to uninstall the program from Windows Settings (Win + i) and then download it again from the official website. We will proceed to install it as usual, following the instructions of the installer.
