So you can save voicemails on your iPhone

  • Saving voicemails on your iPhone is key. It will allow you to listen to them again when necessary
  • What are the steps to follow with Visual Voicemail and what to do if you can’t use the feature?

It is evident that long gone are the days in which we sent and received voice messages almost daily. Thanks to instant messaging applications, today we have better tools to communicate. Still, you may get one of these messages from time to time, and Saving voicemails on your iPhone will allow you to listen to them again when necessary, but what are the steps to follow to store them?

In general, it is an easy procedure since you only have to go to the Telephone application, specifically select the voicemail that you want to save, and click on the Share button. Choose Save to files within all the options that appear on the screen. Unlike Android, the Visual Voicemail feature included in iOS simplifies access to voicemailsince it prevents you from having to dial a number the old-fashioned way.

How to save a voicemail on iPhone?

To save your voicemail, open the Phone app and choose the Voicemail tab in the bottom right corner. You should see a list of voicemails. Scroll to the message you want to save and tap on it. A pop-up window will open with controls, including a play one, a speaker icon, and a phone button.

At the top right you’ll see a share button, which looks like a box with an arrow coming out of it. Press it to bring up the share sheet and check out all the possible ways to save or share a voicemail. To save voicemail locally on your iPhone, select “Save to Files” and then “On My iPhone.” Finally select a folder in which you want to store this file to access it later.

What if you don’t store voicemails?

Remember that, if you do not do this, the voicemails you have will be stored only on the servers corresponding to your telephone provider. That is, they could disappear if you change providers.

On the other hand, you can save voicemails directly to a cloud storage service. Logically, the obvious thing would be to do it in iCloud, but you can also opt for others like Google Drive. Eventually, you can go one way or another in the Save to files option, which appears on the screen.

AND If your intention is to export voice messages to iPad or Mac, you can always resort to the AirDrop system. Directly from the sharing menu, tap the AirDrop icon and choose your iPad or Mac depending on the occasion. Make sure the receiving computer has AirDrop set to receive from “Contacts Only.”

It is important to clarify that these tricks only work if the operator has support for Visual Voicemail. If you can see a list of voicemails when you open the Voicemails tab, it’s supported. Conversely, if it asks you to dial a number or execute another trick, it means that it is not compatible.

And how to save voice messages without Visual Voicemail?

If you do not enjoy Visual Voicemail and its advantages, there is still the possibility of resorting to Screen Recording. We could say that it is the best solution if you cannot save voice messages in the standard way.

That said, this way of doing it is useful for capturing additional context along with voicemail content, such as caller ID and timestamps, which might be helpful in certain specific cases.

And, as if that were not enough, Screen Recording allows audio messages to be saved as voicemails as video messages from applications that do not allow saving or downloading by default. You shouldn’t rule it out.

Save voice messages with Screen Recording

To screen record a voicemail, use the Screen Recorder that comes built into iOS devices. Scroll down to reveal Control Center and hit the Screen Recording button. When you don’t see this button, go to Settings, Control Center, More Controls, and turn on the Screen Recording switch.

Make sure you have the microphone enabled in the Screen Recording settings, or you will have no audio. You can simply check it by holding down the toggle dedicated to Screen Recording.

Once the screen is recording go to the Phone app and play the voicemail to record it. Once the process is finished, click on the Screen Recording button to conclude. It will be saved in the Photos app.

After exporting your voice messages to your iPhone, it’s a good idea to back them up. Again, choose iCloud or Google Drive, where they will be safe from any defect in your smartphone.
