Windows 11 is here. Will it update? – Liukin

Windows 11 is here (depending on where you are) – the question is are you going to upgrade? Should you upgrade to Windows 11 or will you? For PCs running Windows 10, Windows 11 upgrade is free, as is PCs running 7 and 8 that upgrade to Windows 10. Those PCs running Windows 10 should be able to do it easily as long as the requirements are met direct from Windows 11.

Windows 11 is available for free, but not all processors (CPUs) are supported. In fact, most Windows 10 PCs may not upgrade simply due to direct requirements from my Microsoft.

Computers running Windows 10 must meet requirements, including TPM 2.0 and UEFI with Secure Boot enabled. Without these, upgrading to Windows 11 may not work.

If you don’t know if your PC is compatible, Microsoft has published a Checking the PC status application that you can download and run on existing Windows 10 PCs. The application will tell you if you can upgrade your existing Windows 10 PC.

You can download the application using the link below:

Unless most people are forced, they are usually in no rush to update their PCs. Microsoft is aware that the standard upgrade process can be slow and gradual, and until early 2022 it will start to see some movement with upgrading existing PCs.

These updates are generally released in small groups to allow Microsoft to gradually test the update and make sure it works well for PCs before releasing it to a large group of computers. If you don’t see a prompt to update immediately, it doesn’t mean your PC isn’t supported. It’s just that these updates roll out slowly.

Upgrade Windows 10 to Windows 11

Once you download the above PC Health Check application and run it, and if your PC is compatible, you should see a message similar to the following stating that your PC exceeds the minimum system requirements to run Windows 11.

Once updated, you will have 10 days to return to Windows 11. After 10 days, returning to Windows 10 may not be available.

Why can’t you upgrade to Windows 11

If you run the PC Health Check application and receive a message similar to the one below, you may not be able to upgrade to Windows 11 using the standard upgrade path. Although you may be able to upgrade using other means, Microsoft recommends that you do not install Windows 11 on computers that have older CPUs that are not officially supported.

If you can’t not upgrade, Windows 10 will be officially supported until the end of 2025.
