Although in general the user experience with modern consoles tends to be more fluid than it was on its predecessors, that does not mean that some performance problems do not appear from time to time. Citing a common example, If your Xbox console gets stuck on the Preparing the console screen, there are possible solutions that you should try to get out of there and be able to enjoy your favorite titles.
In fact, if you reached this article, it is most likely that you are suffering from the problem that we have just described. This is a problem that affects the Xbox Series X | S as well as the Xbox One, so being able to solve it is independent of what generation of Microsoft video game machines you have at home.
The good news is that these consoles usually stay on the Preparing the console screen when we try to reset it to factory defaults, so we are ready to lose some data.
Solution to Xbox stuck on Preparing the console screen
As we explained, if when you try to reset your Xbox console to factory default settings using the Reset and remove everything or Reset and keep my games and apps option, you get stuck on this Getting your console ready screen, then we are sure to get you out of there.
Turn your machine off and on
Almost always, the actions Boot, Reboot, Restart, Reset, Hard Reset and Power Cycle have as their main objective get rid of a punctual errorwhich seems temporary, and so we resorted to restoring factory defaults, convinced that by resetting these parameters, the error will be gone.
If your Xbox isn’t responding properly, it’s a good idea to try a new power cycle first. This won’t fix major issues, if any, but it will shut down minor processes that can cause these issues we’re talking about.. What you need is to restart your console manually.
- Press and hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for about ten seconds
- Disconnect your machine from the electrical network, and wait at least one minute to reconnect it
- After that time, plug your console back into the outlet and press the Xbox button
At this point, your Xbox should start up without much trouble, and those minor glitches should be fixed. You can also try holding down the power and disk buttons until you hear two beeps.
The key to this trick is that certain devices carry a backup electrical charge for several seconds. Assuming that we disconnect them and reconnect them immediately, there will not have been that cut with respect to the internal processes that we are interested in to get rid of any anomaly.
Perform an offline system update
In the second instance, if the above does not work, there is the possibility of an offline system update. Requires you to start your Xbox console in safe mode and then perform the offline system update. This is possible thanks to the OSU method, which consists of downloading a file to the USB flash drive and then installing that file directly on the console, avoiding immediate downloads.
To perform this offline system update on an Xbox console, you’ll need a Windows PC with USB ports, a stable Internet connection and NTFS format, plus a USB flash drive with at least 6 GB of available storage. Upon successful completion, the console will reboot and you should be returned to the home screen. From then on, your console has to work like it used to.
It should also be noted that some players report that error codes appear after the procedure. We have written at length about these failures, so we suggest you take a look at our previous posts, as you will find an extensive list of content related to codes on Xbox.
